tutti frutti smoothie

Grapefruit and lime… can you think of a more refreshing way to start the morning?

Citrus Boost Grapefruit Smoothie

Serves 1
Prep time: 5 mins

Ingredients

  • 1 grapefruit, peeled and cut into segments
  • 1 banana
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • juice of 1 lime
  • a squeeze of fresh pomegranate juice
  • ice
  • optional: 1 tsp honey*

What to do

  1. Pour a little pomegranate juice at the bottom of a glass.
  2. In a blender, add milk, banana, grapefruit and lime juice.
  3. Add ice and blend until smooth.
  4. Taste the smoothie. If you find the grapefruit is too tart* then add honey, blend again, and then pour into the glass.

Creamy Choc Mint Smoothie

Yes, I know… choc mint is old-fashioned. In fact, it’s the only ice cream my grandmother would serve at her house. Yes, it’s old-fashioned, but that’s why we still love it. That pastel green flecked with chocolate bits warms the soul in a flurry of a nostalgia.

My recipe combines the classic flavours with healthy fats and leafy greens.

Creamy Choc Mint Smoothie

Serves 1
Prep time: 5 mins

Ingredients

  • 1/2 an avocado
  • 1/2 banana
  • 2 dates, pitted and chopped
  • 1 cup spinach
  • 1/3 cup fresh mint leaves
  • 1/2 cup milk*
  • ice
  • 1 tbs dark chocolate chips, plus more for garnish*

What to do

  1. Blend all the ingredients until smooth, except for the ice and chocolate chips.
  2. When the smoothie is combined, at the ice and blend again.
  3. Lastly, add the chocolate chips and blend for just a few seconds so that most of the chocolate chips stay intact.

*For a completely vegan smoothie, use a dairy free milk such as almond or soy milk and replace the chocolate chips for cacao nibs.

Recipe: Carrot & Ginger Smoothie

Sick of banana smoothies? This one is for you!

I’m not one for juicing – all the good stuff gets left in the juicer! But smoothies? Oh you know I love a good smoothie.

Carrot & Ginger Smoothie

Serves 1
Prep time: 5 mins

Ingredients

  • 1 small apple, chopped
  • 1 medium carrot, peeled and chopped*
  • 1-2 cm fresh ginger, peeled and chopped
  • 4 fresh mint leaves
  • 1/2 cup water
  • ice

What to do

  1. Put the water in your blender, then add the apple, carrot, ginger and mint.
  2. Blend until smooth and give it a taste. For me, the apple is sweet enough. However, if you like a little more sweetness, add one pitted date or a dash of honey.
  3. Add a couple ice cubes and blend again.

*PRO TIP: If you do not have a high-powered blender, grate the carrots instead of chopping.
